GSS Releases Official Population Of Ghana As Females Outnumber Males

The Ghana Statistical Service(GSS) has officially released the population of the people of Ghana via a statement which was made by the head of the statistical service.

Government statistician, Prof Samuel Kobina Anim who made the announcement via a press statement on Wednesday revealed that the total number of Ghanaians in the country now is 30.8 million.

He, however, revealed that 50.7 percent were females and 49.3 percent were males.

Breakdown of the Information;

  1. According to the 2021 PHC, Ghana has a population of 30.8 million people.
  2. Since the first post-independence census in 1960, the population has nearly fivefold increased.
  3. Ghana’s population is growing, but at a slower rate than in previous censuses.
  4. Females constitute a larger proportion of the population in the 2021 PHC, as has been the case for the previous four censuses. In ten of the sixteen regions, females outnumber males.
  5. Greater Accra has surpassed Ashanti as the country’s most populous region.
  6. Upper West has been replaced as the nation’s least populous region by Ahafo.
  7. The average household size is 3.6 members, a figure that has been declining since 2000.
  8. Metal containers, kiosks, and wooden structures accounted for 20% of the 10.7 million structures listed.
  9. One in every five of the structures listed was incomplete.
  10. According to the data on structure usage, six out of every ten structures were for residential use.
