As the nation prepares for the Exhibition of the Voters Register on Tuesday the 20th of August 2024, the Inspector General of Police and Head of the Election Security Task Force, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has made a strong appeal to Ghanaians to participate in the exercise freely and peacefully.
He stressed the need for all and sundry who have duly registered to vote in the December 7th elections to visit the various exhibition centres without any fear or panic.
The IGP said this during his visit to the Electoral Commission’s headquarters on Monday the 19th of August 2024. Dr. Dampare emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth and orderly process throughout the exhibition period.
Addressing a gathering that included the heads of various security agencies, the IGP issued a stern warning to political parties and their supporters, cautioning them against taking the law into their own hands. He said the police would deal ruthlessly with any politician found causing trouble at the various centres.
The Nationwide voter exhibition exercise which is expected to end on the 27th of August 2024, has been described as a charade by the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, who have called for the postponement of the exercise.
Its party Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah had demanded the EC first release the voter Register to the various political parties for scrutiny before holding the exhibition exercise.
However, the EC in a related development, has heeded to the demands of some political parties leading to the release of a provisional voter register to the parties for security.
