The ongoing violent protest in the United Kingdom is fast becoming a recipe for racial attacks.

According to reports some black immigrants especially Africans have become a target of homophobic and racial attacks in the ongoing violent protests which are in its third week.

CNN reported that Riots have swept through some major cities in Britain, and more outbreaks of anti-immigrant violence are feared this week, leaving the new UK government scrambling to control the worst disorder in more than a decade.

Police officers were injured in Plymouth on Monday night as angry crowds descended on the coastal city in southwest England.

The latest outbreak of violence came after crowds of far-right agitators set fire to hotels housing asylum seekers over the weekend in two cities, leaving those inside trapped and terrified, while throngs of rioters in other cities damaged public buildings and clashed with police, throwing objects at officers and smashing their vehicles.

With the latest nature of the violent protests targeting Black immigrants, there are growing concerns and calls for the African government to step up efforts to protect their citizens in the UK who are currently trapped or caught up in the violence.

Some Africans living in the UK have been sending distress calls through the internet in anticipation of any external help since the UK police and the government are battling to contain the situation.

With the fate of hundreds of Ghanaians living in the UK unknown, sources within Ghana’s Consulate in the UK suggest the Commission is expected to brief Ghana’s foreign minister on the latest developments for an expectant and speedy response.
