Throwback: Mobile Money Shouldn’t Be Taxed-Bawumia

The recent 2022 Budget which was read by the finance minister who stated that mobile money transactions would soon be taxed has led to many making references to vice president Bawumia‘s statement a year ago.

The vice president Bawumia who was speaking during an interview with Kwame Sefa kayi on his Kokrokoo show revealed that he is of the view that mobile money transactions should not be taxed since the majority of the people who use them are the less privileged in society.

According to him, electronic services should not have another tax placed on them apart from the corporate taxes the telcos already pay on their mobile money earnings.

” I am of the view that mobile money services should not be taxed because most of the people who use the services are the poor and if that is been done it would make them suffer a lot”

The statement of the Vice president has left much thinking if the government doesn’t have a fair knowledge about what it is doing since they keep contradicting themselves each day that passes.
