For some weeks, irate youths of the Federal Republican State of Nigeria had been holding varied protests across the length and breadth of the country to drum home their genuine concerns about purported police brutalities.
During the said period, Nigeria’s security forces had reportedly shot dead demonstrators protesting against the police brutality in Lagos according to several eye witnesses. This necessitated the need for the authorities to impose an immediate curfew whilst promising a thorough investigation.
Well, with countless calls for calm came a certain cooling down moments as stability was gradually restored. With supposed second wave of protests imminent (according to rumourmongers), the Lagos State Police Command has ordered the commanders of the Mobile Police Squadrons and Special Protection Unit in Lagos State to withdraw their officers from persons who are not entitled to police aides and escorts.
The Command’s decision comes after a probable projection into more disturbances in the near future and the need to make men available within the entire Lagos State jurisdiction.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has therefore put all police personnel and other security agents in the state on red alert, for any eventuality whilst cautioning against any supposed “peaceful” or violent protest whatsoever in the state.
