Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna State, has condemned the kidnapping of kids from Bethel Baptist School in Damishi, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
It is reported that Gunmen stormed the school in the early hours of Monday, July 5, 2021, and kidnapped an unspecified number of kids with media reports claiming up to 100 were abducted.
The saddened governor El-Rufai has described the incident as an unfathomable atrocity to humanity and the sake of education in his statement on Monday afternoon.
Security agencies have assured the Kaduna State Government of vigorous search and rescue efforts to locate and secure the unspecified number of abducted students
This abduction is the fifth in the state since March, discounting another attack that did not result in the kidnapping of hostages.
Many of those kidnapped in the past have previously been released after the kidnappers were paid ransom demands by the hostages’ relatives.
The eight students and two lecturers kidnapped from Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria about a month ago are yet to be released.
Five Greenfield University students who were kidnapped a few weeks ago were killed as a result of the El-Rufai government’s unwillingness to cooperate.
The governor has stated unequivocally that he will not pay any form of ransom demands to the kidnappers since doing so would just enrich them and encourage them to continue the enterprise.
