Just In: Mali’s former president, Amadou Toumani Touré dies at 72

Mali’s former president, Amadou Toumani Touré, has been confirmed dead by his personal doctor just this morning.

According to the doctor, the former head of state died this midnight in Turkey, where he had been taken to receive treatment of an undisclosed illness.

Late Amadou Toumani Touré who was also a former army general ruled for 10 years and was celebrated for enacting democratic reforms in the West African nation, before being ousted in a military coup in 2012.

He took over the helms of affairs in Mali in 1991 after he staged a coup de tat against dictator Moussa Traore, after 22 years of aggressive rule.
