A 45 years old woman named Theresa Asamoah has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment after she was arrested for stealing a newborn baby with the help of her daughter whose name was also identified as Priscilla Appiah.
The incident which took place at the Kumasi South Hospital was said to have happened after the woman who had faked pregnancy to her husband decided to find a way of getting a baby to show when the time is right for her to deliver her fake baby as they tricked a nursing mother who was staying with them and stole her baby after which she was told her baby had died.
The nursing mother Slyvia Pime who was staying with the accused woman was said to have moved back from Kumasi to Nandom after her baby was declared only to return to a baby who looked like her daughter which prompted her to inform the Domestic Violence And Victim Support Unit(DOVVSU) who also arranged with the police to arrest the woman as they conducted their investigations.
The daughter of Theresa Asamoah who pleaded not guilty to the offence was asked to pay GH100000 with three sureties to be justified whiles her mum was sentenced to 6 years in prison with hard labour.
