Eight self-acclaimed prophets have been said to have drowned in a river at Rushinga, Mashonaland Central Province, Zimbabwe when they tried removing a holy stick from a river.
The prophets who are from the Vadzidzi vaJeso Apostolic sect drowned in the Mazowe River on Saturday, October 3 after they decide to have their annual Passover ceremony and stampeded into the river, drowning.
According to reports, the prophets were competing on who could be able to retrieve a “holy stick” from the river’s deep waters during a baptismal ritual.
provincial development coordinator for Mashonaland Central Province Timothy Maregere confirming the incident revealed that there were ten prophets but only two were able to survive the accident.
