The Tema Executive Lions Club, which is affiliated with the Lions Club International, has held a workshop to educate students from Chemu Senior High School in Tema about entrepreneurship. This initiative is part of their ongoing commitment to empower communities and promote positive change.

Dr. Rejoice Letsa-Lawer, the club president, stated that as an organization dedicated to humanitarian services and community development, they believe that empowering youth is crucial for fostering economic growth and social development.

According to Dr. Letsa-Lawer, empowering young people involves equipping them with skills, resources, and the confidence to take control of their future. When the youth are empowered, they are more likely to pursue education, participate in community activities, and make positive contributions to society.

Dr. Letsa-Lawer emphasized that entrepreneurship offers a platform for the youth to apply creativity and innovation, start businesses, create job opportunities, and drive economic progress.

She added that introducing entrepreneurship to the youth early would strengthen society by fostering a culture of initiative, resilience, and progress.

Mr. Isaac Ablordeppey, a lawyer with the Parliamentary Service, pointed out that the current job market is highly competitive, with many young people competing for few jobs. He suggested that entrepreneurship could provide an alternative solution for young people to create job opportunities. He encouraged the students to develop skills such as innovation and creativity to create something for themselves and their communities.

He noted that the lack of funds is a common challenge for entrepreneurs, but expressed his belief that innovation and ideation could solve that challenge.

“The greatest challenge for entrepreneurs is ideation and innovation, not capital,” he stated, adding, “There is capital available, but the difficulty is how to access it. As an entrepreneur, you need to be creative and innovative to overcome this challenge”, he said.

He encouraged the students to consider entrepreneurship as they pursue their education to avoid ending up as unemployed graduates.

Mr. Sylvester Yankey, the Tema Central Sub-Metro Chairman, emphasized that mentorship is an important tool in helping young people succeed in entrepreneurship. He acknowledged that the Government is taking the right steps by recognizing the need for entrepreneurship among young people, but stated that mentorship is crucial to help them succeed.
