Scott Marmon and Augustina Montefiori has got the internet buzzing as they have held the first ever virtual wedding while worlds apart.
With the inception of COVID-19, virtual events have become the order of the day as restrictions have been put on public gatherings to enforce social distancing protocols.
So this couple who have been dating since they met in 2017 and were engaged in January 2020 had been planning their wedding until the outbreak of COVID-19. This got them separated because they lived in different parts of the world and borders were closed as well. Scott, 32, lives in New York whereas Augustina lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Last week, the couple obtained a license to marry online even though they were in different countries with friends and family joining them as a live audience.
This makes them the first ever couple in the world to hold a virtual wedding while apart.
The couple had something to say about their wedding;
Scott said; ‘I had a flight date for March 22, but on March 14 all borders were closed due to the pandemic and then we were separated.’
The 28 years old Augustina said; ‘A family friend of Scott introduced us, they organized a dinner and that’s how we met.’ One day, in a very American style, he took out the rings, knelt down and proposed to me.’
‘They never understood that my boyfriend came to marry and live in this country, that he was not traveling as a tourist.
‘Before every question, the answers were always negative and they told us that if we were not married, Scott could not enter the country.’
He is now able to apply for a family reunification visa – costing £650 – and then they can then be reunited.
