Joy Sunday, a 37-year-old mother of two, was detained by the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly throwing boiling water on another lady, Justina Ameh, who accused her of dating her husband inside a church.
The suspect was apprehended after Ameh said she had slept with her (Ameh’s) husband and scalded her face.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Oyeyemi, the event occurred in Agbado, in the state’s Ifo Local Government Area.
He said;
“The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the Agbado divisional headquarters by the elder sister of the victim, Kelechi Samuel.
“She reported that she went for a vigil at the Spring of Life Global Ministry situated at the Giwa area of Agbado with her younger sister when the suspect came into the church with a container of hot water and poured it on her sister’s face, thereby causing her grievous harm.
“She stated further that while she was trying to hold the suspect, she was also stabbed in her left hand by the suspect.
“Upon the report, the DPO of the Agbado division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, detailed his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect, Joy Sunday, explained that the victim had been accusing her of sleeping with her husband for quite some time and all efforts to disabuse her mind proved abortive.
“On that fateful day, while they were in the church, the victim came as usual and started raining curses on Joy.
“While Joy tried to walk away from her, Justina pulled her back and tore her clothes.
“It was that annoyance that made the suspect go home and boil water, which she brought back to the church and poured on the victim’s face.
“When asked whether or not she was dating Justina’s husband, the suspect said she could swear with anything that there was nothing between her and the victim’s husband. The victim has been taken to the Strong Tower Hospital for medical treatment.”
