Elections 2020: Voters who take photos and videos of their ballot papers will be arrested – EC warns

Reacting to the current trend which has taken over the internet where voters take photos and videos of their ballot papers to show whom they voted for, the EC has cautioned electorates to desist from such acts because it is an offence and can lead to a person arrest.

According to the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, who spoke with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, people who are caught taking pictures and videos at various polling stations will carry the full weight of the law.

He said;

If you finish and you tell people who you voted for, that is fine but it is an offence for you to take photos of it and be showing it to people. That breaches the secrecy of the ballot. In the view of the law you can be arrested..
