Nigerians planning to travel to U.S.A are to pay more for their VISA application.
According to the US embassy, the result for the increase in fees was as a result of unsuccessful talks with Nigerian government to adjust the amount of charges imposed on American applicants.
According to the embassy, the cost of a US citizen to obtain a VISA to Nigeria is higher than than the cost of a Nigerian citizen obtaining a VISA to USA. The increase in the reciprocity fees is to eliminate the cost difference.
This reciprocity fees started in 2017 as part of Trump’s plans to ban Muslims.
BBC reports that Nigerians who will want to get a VISA now to the US will have to pay somewhere between $80 and $110.
Complains by the United states government were made to the Nigerian government to reduce the high fees but the Nigerian government refused to reduce the fees.
As a form of retaliation, the United states have also decided to increase the fees for Nigerian applicants of VISA to the United states.
