Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, lamented how most media houses nowadays use Twi voiceovers for their telenovelas at the inaugural memorial lecture of Okyenhene Ba Dr. Jones Akwasi Amoako Atta Ofori-Atta at the University of Ghana.
Professor Mike Ocquaye lamented, saying these things can not happen in the country where the telenovelas are originally from. He also urged the Ghanaian movie industry to bounce back with quality Ghanaian movies.
In his own words, he said:
I can’t help but add one thing. I implore our performers and writers to produce Ghanaian movies. Every time I hear Twi or Ga phrases shoved through European or Asian lips, I feel nauseous. If we want to grow as a people, the practice ought to end.
These are the factors that break down a nation. In Malaysia, that can never take place. In India, that will never take place. It can never occur in any of the Asian Tiger nations.
