Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John is dead.

Apparently Sir John is reported to have died of Covid-19, a report which is yet to be confirmed by the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where he passed away today.

Prior to his death, many wondered why a man who was born Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie will be known in the world of politics as Sir John.

This takes us back to an interview between Deloris Frimpong Manso, aka Delay, and Sir John, exactly five years ago on June 30, 2015, when the NPP was in opposition.

In the course of the interview, Delay asked Sir John the secret behind his famous name and why he even decided to call himself that in the first place.

However, to the surprise of many, the popular politician who died while serving as the boss of the Forestry Commission of Ghana refused to reveal the secret behind his name as he claimed it was a major factor to his success.

According to him, revealing the secret behind the name will do him more harm than good hence will only reveal it after his death.

Now that Sir John is dead, the world waits on what the name actually meant and what it stood for since it was one of his promises to Ghanaians.
