President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced his decision to extend the Coronavirus-induced incentive package for frontline health workers until the end of the year – December 2020.
The Prez. made this revelation in his 19th address to the nation yesterday; November 8, 2020, on issues taken to salvage the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Recall that this was an incentive that was introduced by President Akufo-Addo in April 2020 where health workers are not to pay income tax on their salaries as a way of motivating them.
“I am happy to announce that the incentive package for health workers has been extended to the end of the year. Again, all frontline health workers as defined by the Ministry of Health will continue to receive their additional allowance of 50 percent of their basic salary for October, November and December,” the President divulged.
On a sad note, Ghana is beginning to see an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases in recent days as the active case count is currently at 1,156. Out of this number, 198 are new cases recorded as at the period the President was delivery the speech.
