In the wake of the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria which led the killing of protesters at Lekki toll gate some months ago, the security situation in the country doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

The latest is the killing of Engr. Mufutau Olayemi, a lecturer at D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori in Ogun State by suspected gunmen.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 18th, 2020 after the lecturer was trailed to the Itori area of the State by the unknown gunmen in an unmarked vehicle and shot him at close range.

Engr. Olayemi who was the Head, Department of Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic, reportedly died in his car afterwards, with the killers fleeing the scene without taking any thing from him or his car.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident to the media, noted that the command is treating it as a case of “assassination”.

He added that detectives from the Homicide section have been dispatched to the area to investigate the matter and unravel those behind it.

Meanwhile, Olayemi’s friends have taken to social media to mourn him.
