In just about a month ago after its Lashibi branch was robbed, the Okpoi Gonno branch of the Access Bank almost suffered the same fate if it had not been for the timely intervention of a police patrol team.
Similar to what happened in Lashibi where six masked robbers stormed to steal huge amounts of cash from the bank’s vault, six masked men had entered the Okpoi Gonno branch, tied up the two security men on duty and set out to rob the bank.
In the case of Lashibi, five suspects have been arrested while two pump action guns and 100 rounds of AK firearms have also been retrieved.
Chief Superintendent (Chief Supt) Adama Seidu, The Crime Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, confirmed and narrated the incident at the Okpoi Gonno branch.
According to him, a police patrol team noticed something suspicious when they got there on their normal rounds on Sunday, November 15 around 2am. They decided to check the premises only to find the two security officers tied up. They were then told by the officers after untying them that armed robbers had entered the bank through the back.
The robbers however escaped using a ladder when they spotted the police.
Checks showed they had destroyed the banks alarm systems, CCTVs, and ATMs.
Fingerprints have been taken from the scene and a search has began for the arrest of the suspects. The public has also been urged to report any leads.
