On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Samson Asaki Awingobit, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, officially filed his nomination forms to contest the National Chairmanship position within the People’s National Convention (PNC).
Accompanied by enthusiastic supporters and key party executives, Awingobit submitted his nomination forms at the PNC Headquarters in Accra. Having expressed his interest in the National Chairmanship position several weeks prior, he now aims to lead the party toward positive change.
Addressing members of the Party’s Elections Committee and the press, Samson Asaki Awingobit said his decision to run for the National Chairmanship role reflects his commitment to revitalizing the party and enhancing its prospects.
Awingobit’s vision centres on revamping the PNC’s structures and rejuvenating its fortunes. He emphasizes unity among party factions and pledges to ensure accountability among the rank and file of the party if voted as the party’s national chairman.
The PNC’s Elections Committee Chairman, Mr. Alhassan Azong, commended Awingobit’s bold decision to revive the party and emphasized adherence to election guidelines for all aspirants.
As a former Parliamentary Candidate for the PNC in the 2008 elections (representing the Ashaiman constituency) and a runner-up in the party’s 2020 flagbearership race, Awingobit brings experience and determination to the campaign. His professional background in trade and entrepreneurship further positions him as a formidable contender for the National Chairman role.
With his filing fees of 50,000 GHC and relevant documents submitted, Samson Asaki Awingobit is ready to hit the ground running in his campaign activities leading up to the party’s National elections on August 31, 2024
Samson Asaki Awingobit told members of the party’s Elections Committee that his desire to Revamp the party’s structures and improve the fortunes of the PNC informed his decision to contest the National Chairmanship slot come 31st August 2024.
The PNC National Chairmanship race has been described as a two-horse race between Samson Asaki Awingobit and Hajia Hajara a former member of the Council of State.
