Peter Obi Condemns The Shooting Incident At Lekki Toll Gate

Peter Gregory Obi, former Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party has reacted to the shootings of peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate and other parts of the country.

Recall some protesters were shot at after armed military men invaded Lekki Toll Gate during the early evening of Tuesday to sack protestors who had refuse to leave for their home in the wake of a curfew been placed on Lagos state by Governor Babajide.

Well, in the wake of their presence the military officers fired gunshots which resulted in the killing of some protestors while several others sustained injuries.

Reacting on Twitter, Peter Obi condemned the alleged killings, saying shooting of protesters while they were singing the national anthem is “unconscionable”

The former Governor of Anambra State argued that the lives lost during the gun attack is a ‘collective loss’ to the nation and not just to their families who are grieving.

He wrote:

The killing of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate and other parts of the country yesterday is condemnable. It should not have happened.

To imagine that young people seeking to enthrone a better Nigeria where shot at even while they were singing the national anthem is unconscionable.

We cannot be wasting precious lives that represent the foundation of our future. It is not just a loss to the families who are grieving, but the collective loss of our nation.

My deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those affected. May their souls rest in peace and their memory a blessing. -PO
