A section of the Ghanaian community has shown gross disdain ever since people of the LGBT community started gaining some empathy and love from reputable people like Juliet Ibrahim and Michael Essien.
Unlike Juliet Ibrahim, the Black Stars midfielder and Chelsea star, Michael Essien is currently under fire on social media after throwing his weight behind the LGBT community in Ghana, one that I personally fine unwarranted.
The highly respected Ghanaian footballer who started his career here in Ghana ‘did not kill a fly’ to experience this discriminatory display.
Rather, Mr Essien who served the Ghana Black Stars with all his might and brought cheers into every Ghanaian home simply endorsed the need for queer rights to be respected in Ghana.
In a post on Essien’s official Instagram account (@michaelessien) he said, “We see you, we hear you, we support you. Our LGBTQIA plus community in Ghana“

Essien’s post, however, did not sit well with a section Ghanaians who claim to have max respect for the footballer.
According to a follower who seem to enjoy the sudden display of hatred, the post – which has been deleted – has cost Essien to lose over 500,000 followers in less than 24hrs.
Asiedu Mends wrote; “Then Michael Essien get 1.9M before he post the trumu trumu thing , rydee he dey 1.4M .. Herh squad no dey joke like that”

UPDATE:
Further checks conducted by Gossips24.com reveal the footballer has been stuck at 1.4 million followers since January 2021.

This was confirmed by a post he made on January 21, 2021 where he had 1.4 million Instagram followers, the same number of followers he had at the time of this update (March 2, 2021).
