Two persons have been arrested in connection with the violence that occurred at James Town in the Odododiodoo Constituency last Sunday.
According to the police, the two were part of those who were seen throwing stones and bottles in videos shared on social media.
The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Effia Tenge said another person who was captured on video firing gunshots has been invited by the police through his lawyer.
She made this known at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday [October 28, 2020].
Many wonder why the two who were throwing stones were rather arrested while the one seen shooting guns was only invited. Rumours have it that the Ghanaian police are noted for professional misconduct including selective justice at the call of politicians.
The health walk was led by the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodio, Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuije, with key party functionaries and supporters in attendance.
The walk began at the Opera Square in Accra and was routed through the Rawlings Park, UTC, Arena, James Town, and designed to end at the starting point at the Opera Square.
However, when the group got to the NPP’s Odododiodioo Constituency area, known as the “Blue Gate” around the High Street, a misunderstanding ensued between a group of young men who were in the “Blue Gate” area and some supporters of the NDC participating in the health walk.
This resulted into the throwing of bottles and stones at each other, resulting in serious injuries to about 10 persons who were rushed to the hospital.
