Wode Maya, Ghana’s most subscribed person on YouTube, has been in hot water since yesterday after he tweeted that colonialisation has done more harm than good because he has been sitting with some African folks for a while and they cannot communicate because he speaks English and the other two speak French and Portuguese.

A lot of people are bashing the travel youtuber because they believe there would have been language barriers even if Africans were not colonised, and he is also trying to say Africans would have communicated better because all local dialects in Africa are similar.

He wrote:

Colonization really did harm to Africans.Three young Africans on the same dinner table but we couldn’t communicate because I speak English & both speaks French & Portuguese respectively!

And some of the comments are:

@Dennis_kwakye_ But you wouldn’t be speaking the same language even without colonisation or am i missing something?

@Aceofwins This has nothing to do with colonialism, if they were to speak their respective languages would you understand?

@DansomanMantse Africa as a whole is linguistically diverse even if the the white man didn’t come we mostly couldn’t each other cos we spoke various languages . Its actually one of the reasons the colonisers had it a bit easy colonising us.
