John Dramani Mahama ex president and the current presidential candidate for the NDC party has made a promise as part of his manifesto that he would grant all imprisoned small scale miners amnesty.

The current ruling party which is the NPP embarked on a clean up of the mining sector that resulted in the arrest of many Galamsey operators.

  In his speech to address the chiefs and people of Abesewa in the Ahafo Ano South East constituency on Tuesday Mahama made a promise that his potential incoming government would see to the release of small scale miners from prisons because they deserve a second chance to prove themselves.

Below was what the Former President stated;

“Because of the fight against galamsey, some of the youth have been arrested. But with our new policy on small-scale mining when we come into power, we are going to start afresh. We know they have offended the law but I believe that these galamsey operators are remorseful so we will give them another chance”, he said.

According to Ex- President Mahama the small scale mining sector has the potential to provide millions of jobs to the unemployed youth if careful strategic plans and regulations are put in place.

JM further accused the current government spear headed by Nana Addo for allowing only members of the NPP party to benefit from the scale mining sector.
