Ex-President John Dramani Mahama was denied access to sign the book of condolence when he visited the family at Rawlings’ residence on November 13, 2020, to commiserate with them over the death of the former president.

According to reports reaching Gossips24.com, this happened when a delegation from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) visited the family of former President Jerry John Rawlings after Nana Addo’s visit.

Remember Nana Akufo-Addo was granted access to sign the book of condolence when he visited, however, the case was not same when John Mahama reached the residence.

Mahama should have signed the book of condolence opened in honour of Rawlings. But according to Chairman Ofosu Ampofo, Mahama could not get the opportunity because State Protocol turned him away.

From an interview, Ofosu Ampofo is quoted to have said, “They [State Protocol] told us the book has been closed and it will be reopened on Monday.”

Former President Jerry John Rawlings died around 10 am on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Korle-bu Teaching hospital after a short illness. Meanwhile other news outlets claim the longest – serving president of Ghana died of Covid-19.
