The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, has debunked the news that he is set to announce Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate.
Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang is a former Minister for Education in Ghana. She was appointed in 2013 by President John Mahama after the 2012 elections.
News circulated on social media on Monday, 23 December 2019 that Mr Mahama was set to announce the former Education Minister as his running mate for the 2020 polls at 5 p.m.
But Mr John Mahama, in a Facebook, post said: “The selection of a running mate is done by the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in consultation with the Council of Elders and the National Executive Committee of the Party. There has been no meeting of either of the two bodies called for this purpose. How would any person believe that I am going to announce a running mate at 5 p.m. today?”
