Jean Mensa’s EC To Operate 2,260 Polling Stations In Volta Region

The electioneering season is drawing closer even though the campaigns have been halted because of the sudden death of the first president in the Fourth Republic, Jerry John Rawlings. Out of respect, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have all suspended their campaigns. This has, however, not stopped the Electoral Commission (EC) from carrying out thier mandate under the Constituion of the Republic of Ghana (i.e making preparations to ensure free and fair elections)

According to news reaching our outfit, a total of 2,260 polling stations would be operated by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Election Day in the Volta Region.

Mr. Selormey Adukpo Dogbey, Volta Regional Director of the EC, during a stakeholder engagement among the security agencies, the EC, the media, and political parties in Ho said the increment from the total of 2,011 stations used during the 2016 elections was as a result of the Commission’s decision to split oversubscribed polling stations that come with a voter population above 749.

He said;

“After the registration exercise, the EC looks into the numbers and re-adjust.”

He added that all preparations were in place for the December event, and that the Region had taken delivery of all non-critical materials including process forms, stationery, and other accessories.
