IGP threatens to withdraw police officers from escorting bullion vans after James Town robbery

The Ghana Police service under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, has issued a warning to banks following the killing of one police officer in a daylight robbery today.

Constable Emmanuel Osei was shot dead today after some notorious armed robbers attacked a bullion van in James Town around 11am GMT on Monday, June 14, 2021.

The Ghana Police service in a press release signed by SP Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman (Mrs) explained how the Constable who was on escort duty lost his life.

The statement from the police service hinted that the IGP has directed the CID to commence investigations and arrest the criminals involved in the robbery.

The IGP, through the statement, also reminded the Association of Bankers to provide fortified armored vehicles for carting currencies by the end of June 2021 else the service will withdraw its officers.
