Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) referee, Theresa Bremansu, has confirmed that she was beaten up mercilessly by spectators and some prison officers when she officiated the Ghana Football Association Normalisation Committee’s Women Special Competition over the weekend.
The beating followed a loss by Prisons FC to Ampem Darkoa which won by a goal to nil.
Ms Bremansu was the referee in the semi-final match in Sunyani on Sunday.
According to her, she cried for help during the beating but nobody came to her rescue and even after being beaten up, she alleged that some of the players in the losing team had the guts to say they wished she was beaten to death.
“I was attacked by a Prisons Ladies’ supporter who was wearing a black top, I called for his arrest but nobody moved a finger; they all stood and watched this man beat me up. I was beaten like an armed robber,” the FIFA referee told Asempa Sports.
Mavis Owusu scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute at the Army Park in Sunyani to give the visitors the all-important win.
