It seems the Buhari-led Nigerian government is bent on punishing all frontline ENDSARS protesters. From the look of things, he might have meted out severe punitive measures against all protesters if he had had their records. Nigerian youths had demonstrated against SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad) because of their purported brutalities against some people. The government had subsequently dissolved that police unit.

After the incident, Bank accounts of Nigerians who played key roles at the End SARS protests have been frozen and one of those affected has written an open letter to CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele via social media.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had directed that accounts of End SARS frontliners be frozen after receiving the nod of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The apex bank reportedly instructed banks to place a “Post No Debit” restriction on the accounts till January 2021.

The request was granted by Justice Ahmed Mohammed and was filed by the CBN on October 20, according to ChannelsTV.

The affected individuals included Bolatito Racheal Oduala, Chima David Ibebunjoh, Mary Doose Kpengwa, Saadat Temitope Bibi, Bassey Victor Israel, Wisdom Busaosowo Obi, Nicholas Ikhalea Osazele, Ebere Idibie, Akintomide Lanre Yusuf, Uhuo Ezenwanyi Promise, Mosopefoluwa Odeseye, Adegoke Pamilerin Yusif. Umoh Grace Ekanem, Babatunde Victor Segun, Mulu Louis Teghenan, Mary Oshifowora, Winifred Akpevweoghene Jacob, Victor Solomon, Idunu A. Williams, and Gatefield Nigeria Limited.

Bassey Victor Israel took to Twitter a few hours ago to post an open letter to Mr Godwin Emefiele regarding his frozen bank account.

He wrote:

GoodMorning Godwin Emefiele

Your son has enough food to eat, I ate just once yesterday

Your son is sleeping in his room, I’m begging my landlord not to throw my things out

Your son has pocket money, I have pocket drought

Supporting #EndSARS isn’t a crime, unfreeze my accounts

He added:

At this stage I’d be lying if I said I don’t need help. I’d appreciate anything I can get from anybody. Nothing is too small. It will go a long way to help me clear out some debts incurred over the last 3 weeks and also sustain myself for the next 3 months. Please. God bless you
