Prominent highlife artiste, Bisa Kdei has revealed it is extremely difficult to be a highlife artiste in Ghana since Ghanaians have turned their back on the genre.
Highlife is known to be the indigenous music of Ghanaians and as such – Ghanaians are expected to protect it with all they have.
However, it has turned out to be the opposite. Listing the number of highlife artistes in Ghana will end up providing a list of only four or five in the genre.
There aren’t so many highlife songs hence causing it listenership and patronage to die off slowly in the 21st century.
Bisa Kdei who was speaking on the state of highlife in an interview on Sika FM admitted the genre has become difficult to represent lately.
Bisa Kdei said: “It is true, Highlife is difficult. It’s just as I speak with you. It about you telling a story, therefore it is even difficult for people to listen to all that you say in a track. It sometimes looks like forcing people listen to my story. Meanwhile people are busy doing their own things hence to get people to listen to Highlife is difficult. But when you are accepted, that is the best thing”. He told Buju Banton host of the show “Flavour Zone”.
But the “Mansa” hit maker on the other hand quickly counselled that “in whatever you do, you have to do it well for people to appreciate and that will take you to places”.
