Some stubborn Ghanaians who were travelling from Accra to Kumasi and others travelling from Kumasi to Accra have been locked down on the highway for breaking Ghana’s lockdown rules.
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo on Friday, March 27, 2020, announced the implementation of a partial lockdown in Accra and Kumasi to curb the novel coronavirus.
As part of the strict measures put in place, the lockdown frowns on intercity travels from Monday, 1 am. This means travelers cannot travel between and within Accra and Kumasi from 1 am on Monday.
A group of travelers who were traveling by bus and other means to both Accra and Kumasi were made to sleep over on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
From videos shared on social media by victim, Lucy Buehl Ofori Attah, she explains that passengers and all vehicles were stopped by the security personnel on the highway around 2am on Monday.
In the voice of Lucy, they were asked to sleep on the highway and put under lockdown since they had violated the rules.
One can count over 20 cars parked on the highway with no movements and passengers looking stranded on the highway. This is one of the strict measures put in place to curb the situation at hand as we prevent the spread of the virus.
A brilliant move by the military!
