Aminu Yar’Adua, 36, the son of the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua, has been remanded in prison for allegedly killing four people in an auto accident in Yola.
On Thursday, Amimu was remanded in custody after being accused with causing death by reckless driving on June 23, 2021.
The suspect is a Yola-based student at the American University of Nigeria.
According to the prosecutor’s First Information Report (FIR) presented in court by Insp. Zakka Musa, the accused crushed six individuals while driving along Yola bye pass on June 23, 2021, as a result of excessive speeding, according to News Agency of Nigeria.
The court heard that four of the victims were killed while the other two were left injured following the accident.
”Those that died in the accident were identified as Aisha Umar (30), Aisha Mamadu (32), Suleiman Abubakar (2) and Jummai Abubakar (30), while, Rejoice Annu (28) and Hajara Aliyu (27) sustained injuries,” the FIR states.
The prosecution officer told the court that the late Aisha Umar’s relatives, Suleiman Abubakar and Jummai Abubakar, had claimed N15 million in compensation from the defendant.
When the FIR was read to the defendant, as the prosecutor had requested, he denied committing the crime and described the claim as false.
The prosecutor then requested that the case be adjourned so that he could copy the case file and send it to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
