Many are asking who with an NPP blood voted for Alban Bagbin to emerge the 7th Speaker of the 8th Parliament of Ghana? Could it be Kennedy Agyapong, Adwoa Safo Kantanka, or the MP for Fomena, Hon Andrew Asiamah Amoako?

Going into the election for the speaker of parliament on January 7, 2021, the NPP were so confident that they were going to win though the had very little chance of winning but with confidence of having a vote advantage, all was in place for their candidate, Prof Aaron Mike Quaye to win whether by hook a crook.
With a plan, the NDC presented a man of repute, Alban Bagbin, who has been the longest serving member of parliament until the dissolution of the 7th parliament to contest in the election of a speaker for the 8th parliament.
Though both the NPP and the NDC had equal share in the 274 members of parliament elect for the 8th parliament, the NPP was confident that the independent candidate who doubles as MP for Fomena, with his roots coming from the NPP will give them a comfortable win.
However, things turned out to go in favour of the NDC as their candidate, Alban Bagbin secured 138 votes against NPP’s Prof Mike Quaye’s 136 votes. Meanwhile, its on record that one spoilt ballot was recorded in this year’s election for a speaker of parliament.
The Question many are asking is who on the side of the Npp voted for Alban Gagbin, and who caused the spoilt ballot to ensure that Mike Quaye does not become speaker?
Well, we have three faces to consider, Kennedy Agyapong, Adwoa Safo, and Andrew Asiamah Amoako.
Could it be Kennedy Agyapong?
Honourable MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has said on record that he was disappointed in Prof Mike Quaye, who was then the speaker of parliament (2017 – 2020).

His statement was born out of a move by the former speaker of parliament to convince him, Kennedy Agyapong to throw his weight behind his son, Mike Quaye Jnr who contested Adwoa Safo during the NPP primaries in 2020.
However, Kennedy declined the former speaker’s request as he went ahead to back his baby mama, Adwoa Safo to win the primaries and as well retain her seat in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.
This gives us a reason to believe that Kennedy got rid of Mike Quaye by voting against him.
Was it Adwoa Safo?
Adwoa Safo, morally and politically was not in good terms with the former Speaker of Parliament, Mike Quaye.

It is no hidden truth that there’s been a bad blood between the subjects after Prof Mike Quaye proposed to Kennedy Agyapong to campaign against Adwoa Safo in the NPP primaries — which the Assin Central guru declined.
It, therefore, makes sense that Adwoa Safo would pay him back for that matter and there wouldn’t have been any better way to serve her revenge than to do so in the election for a speaker of the 8th parliament — hence voting for Alban Bagbin!
Payback from the Fomena MP?
Well well, what a better way to see the man who kicked you out of the thing that mattered to you the most fall flat on the face. If there’s anyone who will be rejoicing inwardly, it will be the MP for Fomena, Hon Andrew Asiamah Amoako.
Remember, Hon Andrew Asiamah has a bitter history with Mike Quaye. In 2020 when Hon Asiamah decided to contest in the parliamentary race as an independent candidate a move which goes contrary to the NPP’s constitution, he was denounced and dismissed as a member of the ruling party.
For that matter, the leadership of the party sent a letter to Prof Mike Quaye requesting the dismissal of Hon Asiamah as member of parliament hence bringing his parliamentary duties for the people of fomena in the 7th parliament to an abrupt end.
The interesting part of this drama is the fact that his dismissal from parliament was supervised by Prof Mike Quaye, therefore, bringing about the bad blood.
It makes sense that the Fomena MP, as an independent candidate could be the face behind the spoilt ballot. Gossips24.com has learnt that the spoilt ballot had both boxes representing Mike Quaye and Alban Bagbin ticked and therefore could not be counted for either sides.
The votes of the Judases would have pimped NPP’s 136 votes giving them the seat of the speaker of parliament.
