Court remands Chidinma Ojukwu in prison custody for another 30 days

Chidinma Ojukwu, the key suspect in the murder of Super TV CEO Usifo Ataga, was remanded in custody for 30 days by a Yaba Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court hearing was presided over by Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo, who also remanded Chidinma’s co-defendant, Adedapo Quadri, on the same conditions.

The current court ruling came after police counsel Cyril Ejiofor filed a remand application, pending guidance from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions on the issue (DPP).

Babajide Martins, the director of the Office of the Public Defender, represented Chidinma Ojukwu. Quadri, on the other hand, was not represented by an attorney.

The magistrate stated in her decision on the application that had been brought before her:

“In the absence of any opposition, the two defendants are hereby remanded for 30 days in the first instance. The case is adjourned till September 5, for review of remand/DPP’s advice.”

Remember that Miss Chidinma recanted her earlier testimony to journalists that she stabbed Mr Ataga numerous times, resulting in his death, in an interview.
