Eight market women have been arrested at the Ashaiman market for flouting the government’s directive not to sell amidst the ongoing fumigation exercise being carried out across all markets in the Greater Accra Region.
They were arrested by the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly taskforce at the Mandela market in defiance of the president’s directive. They were handed over to the police who also handed them to Health officials for tests.
As part of measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the country, markets in the Greater Accra Region have today, Monday, 23 March 2020 been closed for a fumigation exercise.
According to the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, this is necessary to rid the nation’s capital of any looming infestations.
