Cecilia Dapaah Case: Court Grants State’s Request for Two-Week Investigation Extension

The court has acceded to the State Prosecutors’ request for a two-week adjournment to conclude investigations in the case involving an alleged theft of $1 million and 300,000 euros at the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah.

Seven individuals, including Patience Botwe, Sarah Agyei, Benjamin Sowah, Malik Dauda, Christiana Achab, Job Pomary, and Yahaya Sumaila, face 14 counts in connection with the case.

However, their respective pleas have not been taken as investigations are still ongoing.

During the recent court session on Tuesday, August 22, the Assistant State Attorney from the Office of the Attorney General, Akosua Agyepomaa Agyemang, and ASP Emmanuel Nyamekye requested a two-week adjournment to conclude investigations. The defense lawyers did not oppose this request.

Lawyer Abdul Basit, representing Job Pomary, the sixth accused who is provisionally charged with dishonestly receiving GHc300,000, submitted a formal bail application for his client.

The prosecution did not oppose this application, citing the completion of investigations on the sixth accused.

The court granted bail to Job Pomary in the sum of GHc300,000 with two sureties to be justified. The sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and Pomary is required to deposit his passport at the court’s registry.

He is also directed to report to the police every two weeks until further notice.

However, an attempt by some of the accused persons’ lawyers to make an oral application for bail was not accepted by the court, and they were directed to submit a formal application.

The case has been adjourned to September 5.

Lactating Mothers Remain on Remand

It has been reported that the two lactating mothers among the seven accused individuals have failed to meet their bail conditions.

Sarah Agyei and Christiana Achab were each granted bail of one million cedis on August 8, 2023, with the requirement of three sureties and the deposit of their Ghana Cards with the court registrar. They were also instructed not to leave the jurisdiction.

As they have not been able to meet these conditions, they remain in custody.
