Famed and eminent media guru, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD has given rise to a hot conversation piece on the internet with regards to his latest comments on slavery and the effect English names have on we Africans.
According to the celebrated and prolific media broadcaster, bearing an English name as an African means that you’re mentally handicapped and still under slavery.
As contended by the fashionista who is strikingly acclaimed for his elite fashion sense, English names were forced on us by our colonial masters. He further mooted that the whites deliberately coerced us to dump our local names for theirs in their attempt yo wipe away our culture.
Are our names so evil? Are they so bad that because you want to go to church, somebody has to change your name? I don’t understand it. So, I insisted on using Kwasi Kyei Darwkah to make a statement that the first name is not English, the middle name is not English and the last names certainly not English
Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds. Think of your ancestors who were whipped on the back and forced to accept another man’s names. Why then in freedom do I still want to fall into that trap and call myself by another man’s name.
Whatever they do elsewhere, we can do the same here but we don’t have to be like them because we are we and they are they
He assertively submitted during an interview on Zylofon FM.
