A middle-aged man, Joshua Agamah popularly known as Yehowa Nyagbe , caused distress among residents of Lebanon Zone 2, a suburb of Ashaiman, when he was found hanging from an ECG Pylon in an apparent suicide attempt on Monday morning.
The victim , a local resident, reportedly climbed the 1,247-foot-tall pylon at 6:30 am. Despite pleas from loved ones and neighbors, he remained determined to carry out his plan.
Fortunately, personnel from the Ashiaman District Commands of the Fire Service, Police, and ECG intervened just in time after they were called by residents, preventing the man from taking his own life after nearly an hour of collaborative effort.
During interrogation, the middle-aged man revealed that he had given up hope due to his family and friends abandoning him in his struggle to raise funds for kidney dialysis treatment. Security personnel on-site also suspect that he may be dealing with mental health issues, which could have been exacerbated by his inability to access proper medical care.
S.O II Ebenezer Commey, leader of the response team from the Motorway Fire Station, emphasized the importance of seeking external help during times of distress rather than resorting to suicide.
The victim has since been admitted to the Tema General Hospital for further assessment.
