Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah reportedly escaped physical assault while driving in Accra on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.
The 58-year-old has been under intense criticism following another poor performance by Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars exited the tournament at the round of 16 stage after losing 5-4 on penalties to Tunisia.
A section of the public has blamed the team’s poor performance on Appiah and have subsequently called for his sack.
However, things got a little messier when the Black Stars coach was nearly assaulted while driving in the capital.
According to a report by GhanaCrusader, a young man tried to assault Appiah while he was in traffic.
The report claims the coach was saved by his fully rolled and locked glass windows, but still suffered verbal abuse at the hands of the said man.
“Are you a coach? You are very stupid. The whole Ghana, you are the most useless. We don’t want you as coach,” the young man reportedly hurled at the coach.
“Who told you that you are a coach? You are lazy, no intelligence. You don’t know anything about football and coaching,” he added in Twi.
The report adds that other drivers at the scene tried restraining the young man to no avail and Kwesi Appiah was perhaps lucky that the traffic eventually eased for him to drive away.
