All public gatherings including Church service have been suspended – President Nana Addo on Coronavirus

ACCRA – The President of Ghana, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo, in his address to the Nation outlined some measures taken by Government to combat the deadly coronavirus.

On Wednesday, 12 March 2020, the president announced the enhanced measures taken to handle the coronavirus, at the time, there had been no confirmed case in Ghana.

Prior to the President’s second address, Ghana had confirmed six cases of COVID-19, with all infected persons making over 180 contacts. This made it quite alarming for the early stages of the outbreak in Ghana.

The president outlined six measures taken by Government, which included a review of public gathering advisories. This comes after a meeting with the inter-ministerial committee on coronavirus response.

In the best interest of the citizens, the president announced that all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, political rallies, sporting events, festivals, and religious events (i.e churches, services, and mosque) have been suspended for the next four weeks.

However, an exception has been given to private burials which should not see more than 25 in attendance.
