Whiles Sarkodie is donating hampers, Shatta Wale is donating takeaway (photos)
We are in the era of donations, and perhaps I should generate a quote like, “He who does not donate, will not enter the kingdom of celebrities”, to best describe how our celebrities are seen in the cams and on social media giving alms to the poor and needy amid the lockdown.
The outbreak of Covid-19 and the imposed partial lockdown which is likely to be extended has seen a fleet of Ghanaian celebrities doing things in their own possible ways to help the poor and needy in their vicinity.
The likes of Criss Waddle, Efia Odo, Sandra Ankobiah, Medikal, Fella Makafui, and Wendy Shay were on top of the donors’ table here in Ghana.
However, two most talked about musicians in Ghana – Shatta Wale and Sarkodie-have also donated food items and Ghanaians are comparing the worth of their items on social media.
Though the main objective of these musicians in the course of their donation is to save or make the lives of their beneficiaries better, fans cannot overlook the debate aspect of these donations.
What Shatta Wale says about Sarkodie on giving
The past months, I can recall incidents that have transpired between both Shatta Wale and Sarkodie with regards to giving back to society or the poor.
Shatta has always labelled Sarkodie as a stingy man. Whiles Shatta makes references to his giveaways, same cannot be said about Sarkodie, these are for reasons best known to the rapper.
Shatta has constantly said, since this rivalry commenced, that Sarkodie does not like appreciating his fans and those around him. It is no surprise that the dancehall artiste in his most recent live video slammed Sarkodie for not donating to the people in his vicinity amidst the lockdown and outbreak of coronavirus in Ghana.
Why Sarkodie Never Gives
Most people think Sarkodie is stingy and does not give to the poor. There have been so many theories on the rapper’s chisel and stingy attitude.
Not from Shatta Wale, but also other musicians and beatmakers who have worked with the rapper in the past always come at him in public for being chisel.
But this has not always been the issue. There have been countless occasions where people have confessed to the fact that Sark gave them more than what they deserved.
The most recent revelation which contradicts the popular opinion or picture painted by all who come at the rapper was made by a video director Babs Direction.
“SARKODIE MADE ME BUY MY LAPTOP after shooting BIIBIBA….he paid me extra after watching the video and I went straight to the apple shop.
“Same guy called me days after the 4syte awards to come for the BIIBIBA MUSIC VIDEO PLAGUE..we won best hip hop video of the year,” Babs tweeted.
The rapper has also said his donations are not publicised because he believes God rewards secretly hence does not need to blow his own trumpet.
Comparing Shatta Wale’s donation to Sarkodie’s donation
Now to the main deal! Shatta Wale donated to 300 prisoners earlier yesterday. Sharing photos of his donations, its obvious Shatta had it well planned. The main goal of his donation was achieved, thus, helping the prisoners with some relief items.
Shatta Wale’s donation to the prisoners included (this is per photos sighted by NK Asamoah) takeaways tied in white polythene bags, 5 packs of bottled water, five packs of storm energy drink, a pack of royal drink, and bags of voltic cool sachet water.
All in all, we can’t discredit Shatta for his efforts, but for an artist like Shatta Wale, one would have expected him to do more. However, we believe Shatta has plans also for the people on the streets.
On the flip side, Shatta’s biggest fear and Ghana’s most cherished artist, Sarkodie also donated some items to the people of Tema, as earlier reported by Julius Appiah of Gossips24.com.
Though Sarkodie only publicised his donation today, which comes after Shatta blasted him, fans of the rapper are praising him for his good works and it is very reasonable that they have taken to social media to celebrate the rapper.
From what I sighted, Sarkodie gave out hampers which were packed in a Kia truck. The hampers included Tin tomatoes, frytol cooking oil, cups of Cindy rice, takeaway wrapped in blue polythene bags, hand sanitizers, washing soaps, and liquid soaps. The package also came along with bags of sachet water.
Maybe after the listing, You’d now understand why people are comparing Sark’s donation to Shatta’s or vice versa. However, I believe Sark targeted a larger community as he gave out to the poor and needy, disabled and the aged in Tema.
