Europa League champions, Chelsea, have confirmed on Sunday June 16 that Maurizio Sarri has been allowed to leave the club to become manager of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus.

Sarri’s exit from the Blues comes barely over two weeks after the 60-year-old guided the club to the 2019 Europa League title at the expense of Arsenal.

In a statement by the London club, it revealed that Sarri’s contract at Stamford Bridge was terminated at his request in order to pave way for his return to Italy.

“Maurizio Sarri is leaving Chelsea Football Club to return to Italy and become manager of Juventus,” wrote Chelsea on its website.

The statement added: “The two clubs have reached an agreement for the early termination of Sarri’s contract with Chelsea FC which had two years left to run and is ending at his request.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: “In talks we had following the Europa League final, Maurizio made it clear how strongly he desired to return to his native country, explaining that his reasons for wanting to return to work in Italy were significant.”
