The Bayelsa State Police Command apprehended a total of 32 alleged cultists in Yenagoa on Thursday.
SP Asinim Butswat, the state’s Police Public Relations officer, announced the announcement in a statement on Friday.
Residents of Yenagoa and other parts of the state have reportedly been terrified by the activities of suspected cults who have battled on many occasions.
The PPRO also stated that the state has established an anti-cultism team to combat the threat of hoodlums.
He said, “The Squad has since commenced an aggressive crackdown on cultists and violent criminals. So far, 32 cultists have been arrested and upon conclusion of the investigation will be charged to court under the Bayelsa State Anti-Cultism law.
“The State Police Command is not unaware of the open and hidden involvement of prominent individuals supporting the activities of the cult groups”, he added.
