Tragedy struck the Mamponteng community in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region last Sunday when a 14-year old boy shot and killed his eight-year-old sister.

The incident has been described as an accident, which involved their grandfather’s single barrel gun.

The whole community was thrown in a state of mourning following the death of the little girl, Princess Owusu Ansah who was earlier playing with the brother.

The ‘suspect’ who was playing with the sister at the time of the incident was said to have gone for the gun from the grandfather’s room whilst he was away.

The gun which was already loaded, accidentally discharged whilst the two were playing and hit Princess in the chin.

She reportedly died on the spot.

The incident occurred around 12:45 PM at a time their grandmother was in the kitchen cooking.

The body has since been deposited at the Zion Praise Hospital Morgue at Kona.

Confirming the incident to Graphic Online, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Godwin Ahianyo, said last Sunday, October 6, 2019, one Isaac Amankwah reported to the Mamponteng Police that his nephew has shot the sister with a single barrel gun loaded with BB live ammunition.

He said when the police went to the crime scene, the body was found in a supine position in a pool of blood covered with a cloth with the chin almost blown off.

He said the grandfather together with the suspect who were initially arrested, have been released on police enquiry bail.
