Some celebrities in Ghana have expressed their desires to contest for the presidency in the future. Some have made moves, studying towards the ultimate goal which might come in the future. Others are still in their passion with just influence and popularity to fall on.

The electoral body in Ghana is influenced by many factors, some tribal, some religious, some base on history, whiles other stick to their partisan preferences.

Though some of the celebrities on our list have affiliated themselves to political parties and already practicing politics, it is an established fact that the two major political parties in the country often pick young people from tertiary institutions both in Ghana and abroad and groom them with the hope of occupying the highest office of the land.

Some of these people who are groomed end up becoming presidents while others become some of the greatest politicians in the country. Examples of politicians in this category are President Nana Akufo-Addo, former president John Mahama, the Minority leader in Parliament Haruna Iddrisu and many more.

Another question that comes to mind is which parties will those who weren’t groomed and haven’t made their allegiance known join?

The renowned Ghanaian actor is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He campaigned for the former President John Dramani Mahama when he was seeking a second term ahead of the 2016 general elections.

He has not hidden his dream of becoming a Member of Parliament and subsequently a president of Ghana. He is currently the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency and he has a dream of becoming a president.

2. Yvonne Nelson

The renowned actress cum activist is one that has constantly aired her views on national matters.

We remember how she led a group of people to embark on a ’dumsor’ vigil sometime in 2016.

That even got her featured on BBC where she was nicknamed the ’Yaa Asantewaa’ of our time. Yvonne Nelson hinted in February that she has dreams of becoming a president of the land.

Yvonne keeps on reminding her followers her weirdest dream is to be a president of Ghana but she has high hopes it will come to pass. We learn she is taking a course in politics and will soon become a full-time politician like John Dumelo.

3. Shatta Wale

Popular Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale revealed plans concerning his ambition to stand for president in Ghana earlier this year.

Shatta Wale has made comments concerning his ambition of becoming the president of Ghana in the near future.

According to the self-proclaiming king of African dancehall, he will be contesting for the presidency in the next election. We don’t know if he was joking or not. But several others have compared the dancehall artiste’s popularity to that of the sitting President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.

4. King George

Young actor King George of famous youth series, YoLO, revealed his intentions to vie for the presidency after John Dumelo succeeded in winning the Ayawaso primaries.

King George is eyeing the seat in 2032. He is not affiliated to any political party yet, and has more years ahead of him to make plans for election 2032.

5. James Gardiner

Ghanaian actor, voice over artist, Radio and TV presenter, James Gardiner, born James Timothy Gardiner has revealed his presidential ambition.

Rocking a perfect outfits to Glitz Awards, James Gardiner took to Instagram and captioned his photo with; “Vote for me make I chop President!  Last night at the 2019 Glitz Style Awards.”

We believe the achievements of John Dumelo triggered his move because he can’t be likened to any political discussion or course. However, it is a dream he has and no one can stop him from achieving it.

6. Maame Serwaa

Teen Actress, Maame Serwaa, has revealed she has dreams of contesting for the presidency in the future. She made this known in an interview with Zionfelix Adomako.

Maame Serwaa, if her dreams come true, will be the first female president in the history of Ghana since Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has given up on the fight.
