General overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil has made a hilarious statement during his church service last Sunday at Christ Temple.
According to the astute preacher and teacher of the word, all unbelievers and believers should share his 31st watch night service message to be pardoned by God over their 2019 sins.
Dr. Mensa Otabil charged his members to forward the Cross Over 2019 message on Whatsapp for their sins to be forgiven.
“… This is a good opportunity to do something good: go and WhatsApp CrossOver to all your friends and let them know that the greatest event of the year is happening at the Independence Square. It will make God forgive you of all your sins of bad WhatsApping that you’ve done throughout the year. Each bad WhatsApp is forgiven but you must WhatsApp CrossOver; that is the key to your forgiveness”, Pastor Otabil said, adding quickly: “You know, I have to clarify it’s a joke. What I just said is a joke”, sending his congregation into laughter.
“You know, people have no sense of humour… Somebody is going to leave here and say: Pastor Otabil says: ‘If you want to be forgiven, WhatsApp CrossOver’”.
“Crazy, crazy, craziness in this country … Even when you joke, you have to clarify [that]: ‘I was joking’. That’s how low we have sunk anyway” he added.
Pastor Otabil who had his congregation laughing their head off said WhatsApp is both a blessing and a hazard and must be put to good use but the practice where people forward anything they receive on WhatsApp must be checked. He however stressed that his forward-crossover-to-get-sin-forgiveness is a joke.
“Sometimes WhatsApp can be both a blessing and a hazard because there are some people who believe that everything they receive, they must forward it; and you can’t block them, too, because they are your friends: if you block them, it would be rude… … Everything: somebody is pounding fufu the wrong way, they would send it; somebody is singing the wrong way, they would send it; somebody is chasing after trotro, they would send it”, he lamented.
