For the first time in seven years, the Chiefs and people of Prampram in the Greater Accra region celebrated their annual Homowo festival without any disturbances.
Tuesday’s event was notable for the joint appearance of the Paramount Stool-father, Numo Osabu Abbey IV, and the embattled chief of Prampram, Nene Tetteh Wakah II. Despite the heavy security presence, the celebration remained peaceful.
The festivities included drumming, dancing, and a traditional procession led by the Paramount Stool father, the chief, and the Queen Mother of Prampram. They walked through the main streets, performing the traditional duty of sprinkling Kpoikpoi at various clan houses and key locations.
In previous years, the Homowo festival had been marred by violence and bloodshed due to disputes between factions loyal to the kingmakers and those supporting the embattled chief, whose legitimacy is currently being contested in court.
Numo Osabu Abbey IV, who played a crucial role in ensuring this year’s peaceful celebration, expressed his commitment to peace in Prampram. He explained that his participation in the procession alongside the embattled chief was a gesture of support for harmony in the community.
Addressing the press, Numo Osabu Abbey IV also emphasized the importance of a peaceful general election. He urged security agencies to perform their duties diligently during and after the 2024 elections and called on the youth of Prampram to avoid actions that could compromise the country’s safety and peace.
