Elections 2020: Police Have Only Received Election Duty Allowances And Not Bribes – IGP

The Ghana Police Administration has dismissed assertions being peddled by the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that officers of the security agency have been bribed by the ruling NPP government.

During a rally in one of the Northern parts of Ghana, John Mahama is reported to have said;

…I have received information that officers are being bribed with GH¢1000.00 to vote for the NPP…If you have performed you would not be paying to be voted for…

Mr James Oppong Boanuh, who is the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has revealed that John Mahama’s claims are blatant lies which should be disregarded.

According to him, that the monies given to the officers were their election duty allowances, which, hitherto, were paid after the officers had completed their election assignment, sometimes affecting their morale in the performance of that special national duty.

Going forward, he also added that those monies were now being paid directly into the officers’ accounts, unlike previous years where they were paid on tabletops.
